24 Celsius, muggy, overcast and largely still. Late afternoon (16:00 - 16:45) through early evening (17:30 - 18:00 on that section of the by-way immediately adjacent to the HCD reserve).
High proportion of the Small Skippers seen roosting in the tall grass on the verge between the High Clear Down Reserve and the by-way. Same was true of the Marbled Whites with one group of 27 all roosting on the flowers of Thistle, Knapweed and Field Scabious within an area of approximately one square metre.
