 I was so excited to see Purple Emperors that it disrupted my moth observations! I think the first was a very tired and worn female (photo attached) and then a more pristine male appeared with beautiful purple sheen - and then flew off into the canopy. Also realised how much bigger they are than White Admirals which made subsequent identification in flight easier
