 11.30 - 11.45. Bizarre! Spent an hour scouring the extensive slopes of Ebsbury for ABs with only limited success, yet across the valley what remains of the earthworks at Grovely Castle was buzzing with them. 2 ChB also seen - a male that was clearly looking for a mate, ignoring the nectar sources as it explored the south-facing bank, and a female rested up in the longer grass below. They didn't meet up while I saw there. [Good amounts bastard toadflax present - a plant I thought would really struggle in the long hot summer, but far from it. I even saw three bastard toadflax shield bugs.] A great visit.
