 An hour along the farm track from 6.30pm and for Painted Ladies and Small Skippers these are conservative numbers - they were everywhere, fighting and chasing each other. This is the second year of herbal leys to the right of the track towards West Park Wood so l imagine this has attracted the Painted Ladies. The Purple Hairstreak had come down from the canopy (see picture) and I followed it back to the Oak tree where its colony lives and spotted more returning to the tree, in the mid canopy and also flitting activity at the very top - quite magical!
